What is the Amsterdam Business School MBA case competition?
This is a competition that is organized by current MBA students in cooperation with ABS’s management. It provides an opportunity to the selected graduate students to experience the challenges of tackling a real-life consulting case presented by the sponsors.
What is the educational background/specialization of the participants?
The competition is open to international and local business school students irrespective of their level of case experience or specialization/educational backgrounds. The invitation will be circulated among the top European business schools and University of San Diego.
When and where is the competition going to be held?
The competition will take place on 25-26 April 2019 (Thursday-Friday) at the ABS campus (Plantage Muidergracht 12, 1018 TV Amsterdam).
What are the key themes of the case competition?
This year we focus on the future of work and all technologies that could have impact on the way we work in the future. This include AI, AR/VR, Automation, Robotics, IoT, Remote work, Universal Basic Income, etc. The exact themes will be shaped by the sponsors and speakers and will be announced during Winter 2019.
Why do you need sponsors?
Sponsors provide financial support that directly contributes to the success of the case competition. Case sponsors also provide a challenge for participants to be solved. Sponsors make sure that participants solve a real-world case that could be directly implemented in the companies.
What are the sponsorship options and benefits?
We offer several levels of sponsorship. Please contact us for more information about benefits for specific sponsorship levels.
Do I have to apply as a team or individually?
Apply either as a team of four, or apply individually. If you apply individually, you will be at random put in a team of 4.
Is there a selection procedure?
At the moment we have a max of 64 students who can apply. This is based on a first-come-first serve basis.
Which companies will be present at the event?
Participating enterprises and networking event details will follow in due course. We are still finalizing details and will update accordingly.
Do I need to pay a registration fee?
Yes. The acquired ticket applies for participating in the event.
Do I need to be present both days?
Ticketholders will be expected to attend the full duration of the case competition which is two days.
Can I prepare for the case beforehand?
You will be assigned to a certain topic beforehand. However, any case information about that topic will be given at the beginning of the case competition.
What can I expect?
The cases will cover one of the aspects of the theme of the event “Future of Work”. There will be four known companies providing a real-life business case. Four teams will compete per topic, and the different companies will each pick a winner per topic. Then one overall winner will be selected during final round of pitches.
Other partners of the Amsterdam Business School will also attend and will be present at the networking events each evening. Furthermore, they will also be present during the day by having speakers who will inform the students about the different topics from an industry perspective.
